Diners
& "Dives" in the Maritimes
from: www.chowhound.com
Hello:
We're Midwesterners planning a trip from Maine to St.
John and Moncton, NB and down into Halifax and over to
western PEI (but would be willing to go 30-50 miles off
the track for a real good chowhound place). What kind of
diners and other casual restaurants can we visit that
would give us a good feel for the Maritimes?
Atmosphere is as important as the food, and I'm more
interested in regional *non*-seafood dishes than in
lobster or other ocean critters. I'd also like to know
about places that stay open all night.
Thanks, all.
RESPONSE
As an expat Nova
Scotian I have a couple recommendations - sorry but one
IS seafood, however a very treasured and greasy dive
experience.
John's Lunch in Dartmouth has the very best fish &
chips in the province. Also try their fried clams &
chips. Yum. I can't remember the address but just look
it up in the phone book. I can't stress how much you
need to stop by John's lunch.
